The Story
The Painted Desert runs in stripes, rust over rose over gray, laid down one age at a time. The stone in this ring came banded the same way, a piece of carnelian with three distinct strata, and the band was built plain to stay out of its way. One stone like this, one ring. It went to a geologist, fittingly, who saw the photo and called the layering by name.
